Physical Education
At Hertford Vale we strive to inspire all of our children to lead a healthy, happy, physically confident and active lifestyle, which progresses into adulthood. Through an enriching, broad, balanced and fully-inclusive curriculum, we provide an array of opportunities for our children to develop the competence to shine in a range of physical activities.
As well as developing physical competencies, we aim to develop many important life skills through competitive sport and personal challenge. We aspire for all of our children to have a positive mind-set and believe that with determination and drive they can be the best that they can be. Through all aspects of Physical Education the children are able to practise and develop physical skills, agility, coordination and to improve their own performance.
PE lessons aim to create an inclusive, active and fun environment. We believe that all children should experience high quality Physical Education. Our lessons are taught by external providers, as well as our own teaching staff. The PE timetable changes yearly, to suit the needs and skills of the children.
Discussions with children and questionnaires about sports they would like to be taught, allow us to tailor our curriculum for the children’s interests combined with the National Curriculum. In KS2, swimming lessons take place at Scarborough Sports Village in the summer term. Throughout the year, there are opportunities for the children to compete in inter and intra school competitions.
In Year 6, we deliver a Sports Leadership programme. At the end of Y5, children are chosen to receive training in how to be a successful Play Leader. This is undertaken in the Autumn term. The pupils work to provide games and structured activities during dinner times. This is an engaging project for all pupils.
